Show seconds all the time

Is there a way for the Forerunner 965 to show the current seconds all the time? I can't get this very simple watch metric to show all the time. I have to take heart rates with a stethoscope and I need either a second hand or the seconds ticking off to do this. I get that the battery life may not be as good. That's fine. But the seconds disappearing after 15 seconds is very frustrating.

I have tried a couple of watch faces from the Connect IQ Store, but they don't do it either, even when I tick the boxes for "always show seconds."

Help?

  • Always on display should help. The watch would need to stay on your wrist, and it may dim, but you'll still see the seconds.

It's not the watchface, but the system settings.

  • Under System > Display > General Use

I have Always On Display set to ON

    Gesture set to OFF

    Timeout set to 15 seconds

When I tap my watch, the seconds will show until 15 seconds elapses, the screen dims and the seconds disappear.

I have tried multiple Watch Faces that come with the watch and a couple of downloaded ones from the CIQ Store, but all behave this way.

Is there another setting I can use to make the seconds show even after the screen dims?

  • In watch faces, seconds are not shown in the dimmed state to conserve battery power (watch face doesn't have to be updated every second). From Garmin's IQ developer pages: "Watch faces spend the majority of the time in “Sleep Mode” in this mode, execution is restricted to updates once each minute, and cannot use timers or animations. When a user raises the watch to look at it, the watch face exits sleep mode." Page facing up

  • With an AMOLED display, Garmin watches 965,265.epix2) can only display seconds when it's not in low power mode.  With a MIP display (like the 955, fenix 7,etc) a watch face can display seconds all the time.  If AOD (AMOLED display) is off or if a watch face doesn't support AOD, the screen goes blank when in low power mode.

  • Could you use the stopwatch? Mine stays on in a dimmed state visibly counting seconds
