Recovery times & suggested workout

After a longish run on Sunday (~48k), I had a look at the watch that evening & it said the recovery needs were high at 70 hours. Monday was always going to be a rest day but when I checked the watch this morning (Tues) the suggested workout was 45 min base. Made me wonder where the rest of the recovery time went or if there is any connection between the suggested workout & the recovery recommendation.

For what it's worth I felt ok so did the 45 min run. Recovery needs now are 27 hours & tomorrow suggestion is a threshold run.

  • It will adjust your recovery time based on your rest measurements - usually will prompt you with a notification saying such, but it's easy to miss if you're not paying attention.  I bet that's what happened in your case.

  • The suggested workout for Tues was already showing on Sunday evening prior to any rest measurements. Sorry I hadn't made that clear.

  • Yes, but also those suggestions that you see for the next days, change according to what you do and how you recover.

  • The recovery time is until you fully recover until the next workout. Base run of 45 minutes will aid recovery if ran at correct recovery pace and is not a workout out as you or I know it.. If you do a hard threshold run immediately after a long run especially a run of 48k in length there is a higher chance of getting injured. Watch is not perfect but it tries to mitigate that. May well be if you sleep well tonight you may be fully recovered before the current 27 suggested hours. For more see support.garmin.com/.../
