forerunner 965 lower calorie count for same activity swimming compared to fenix 6 pro ?

My forerunner (965 and 955 before) has a significant lower calorie count (in swimming activity) than other devices (fenix 6 pro and also Apple watch ultra) - about 2/3  or 1/2 ratio. the reason is not clear. Same results and same  differences are measured when I swim with both watches (FORERUNNER AND FENIX 6) on the same swim (one on each wrist). the longer the swim the bigger the gap. the calorie count on long swims by the forerunner watches doesn't make sense: for example: 2000 calories for a 17 km pool swim.

anybody knows why ? and how it can be fixed ?

  • Calorie count for mine is shockingly low across all activities.  I know my typical calories per mile to within one or two percent by multiple methods - bodyweight measurement calcs, two other fitness tracker brands, and Strava.  I get literally 45% of typical calories using my 965.  It's incredibly frustrating because I used to really value my calorie metrics across different activities (running, cycling, trail running) to judge effort.

It's a subtle thing, but it's getting me bummed out about the entire Garmin thing.  I wish they gave you an option to give it a multiplier to suit your body in case there was an error like this.  And yes, I have triple checked profile body stats and everything.
