Heart Rate Zones

I've upgraded from the 935 to the 965 and was trying to check my zone data and it seems other than showing the % of what the zones are, you can't actually see your actual heart rate zone calculation in bpm for the 965. If I look at the info for my 935 it still shows what they should be in bpm. Is this normal?? I'm on firmware 4.19. First screenshot is from 965 and second from 935. Shows similar on garmin connect online.

  • Well that's a bit dumb. A watch with even more data than my 935 and its missing one of the pieces of data that most people can interpret and use to train. Hopefully as they iron out all the 965 bugs they will bring it back.

  • Thanks for the info. I'm ok with setting the HR zones up. It was just useful every so often to visually see the band calculations especially if you're trying to do training in specific zones like I was yesterday (trying to improve my low aerobic). I'll just have to use the coloured bands on the watch rather than the HR feed off my Wattbike.

  • Agreed. My"base" runs according to 965 are always aerobic now,  even if I keep HR in what used to be zone 2 under my Fenix 6Pro. Oh well..

  • I'm uncertain just where you want to view your zones. They are on your watch. You can view and set your heart rate zones on your watch. You can even set different zones for general activities, running, and cycling. See page 87 of your 965 Owner's Manual, Setting Heart Rate Zones, for how to do this. Hope this helps.

  • I know how to set up the zones both on the watch and the phone it's just that you cannot see what the % correlates to in actual BPM on the 965. You were able to see them on the 935 and the 720xt. If I want to tweak them I will use my knowledge of my BPM during activities to do this but I am having to change the heart rate zone settings on my 935 so I can see what say 50% = in BPM. And then sync them to the 965. It's a stupid change/upgrade to the watch that stops you from checking if the settings look realistic to your personal physiology.

  • Why don't you just use a calculator?

It's not convenient, but math will get you there. If you are unsure how to figure it out, you could always post your numbers and the targets you are trying to set things at and someone may be able to help.

    As an example, if I wanted to know what % 172bpm is, and I have a max HR of 205 /// (172 / 205) x 100 = 83.9%

It would be the same if you used LTHR targets, or HRR.

    --

Working backwards to figure out the bpm, if I knew the % was 83.9%, and have the same max HR of 205 //// (83.9 /100) x 205 = 171.9bpm

  • I dont need to as I still have my 935 which is connected to garmin connect and still shows me the calculations and syncs to my 965.

I just think a watch which is an extra £200 ontop of what I paid for my 935 should show something as simple as the BPM calculations like it used to do. You shouldn't have to use a calculator. It's not complicated and a simple base measure of physical performance and a step back in device design.

  • Completely understand where you are coming from. My venu used to show it whereas the 965 does not. Using a calculator works, but it certainly is an additional step when the program already knows the ranges.

The only reason I can think why it may have been removed is you could also edit the ones like you showed messing up the ranges. Still would be nice if it displayed uneditable ones to the right
