First run with HRM Pro Plus has ground contact time balance data. Second run didn't record it, any idea why? I'm on Ant+

I didn't change any setting or do anything different from my first run with the hrm pro plus, but after today's run it doesn't have the data for gct balance. any reason for this? I wore the hrm correctly, connect to ANT+ and even the activity has the hrm listed as used.

  • I have had situations where that happens. Once or twice.  It seems that the HRM gets disconnected or didn't connect.

I did data dumps to Garmin etc the two or three times it happened with no real success.

99,9% of the time it has worked fine.

As the Watch itself records running dynamics now , if HRM doesn't connect correctly (as is likely the case) you will still see the other RD items (except GCTB - which is only recorded from the strap) so that is why only GCTB is missing.

  • Mine does this sometimes also, what I do is I have a data field with the GT Balance so I can see if it's working as I walk up to my running spot.  One fix that seems to work is to disconnect and reconnect the HR monitor and that usually fixes it.

  • When you say it occurs because it disconnected or didn't connect, does that mean the hrm wasn't utilized at all? As in it didn't even record hr and the watch hr sensors were used instead? Before my run it said the hrm pro plus was connected though.

  • That’s my suspicion . It’s very hard to know given the watch records the majority of the info natively these days .

I would disconnect the sensor completely in the settings and re-add it just to make sure the setup is correct again .

Not relevant to this issue but as an FYI have you checked that pace and distance in the sensor settings are set to indoor only .

the instances I had I think it was related to where I bent forward and the strap came loose against the chest and may have caused a disconnection , but this is just conjecture.

  • i turned off hrm pace and distance. so use for pace, use for distance, and auto calibrate are all set to off on the HRMPro+ setting within the watch. i forgot to mention, on the run gct balance wasn't recorded, i also looked for the green light sensor under the watch a few times during the run and it wasn't on. so that was my other check that the hrm pro plus was being utilized. so i'm thinking hrm can still record hr but maybe bugging out on other run dynamics.

I'll be going on a few more runs this week and I'll see how it goes and taking smbkrun's advice on adding gct balance as a data field on the watch as an indicator if hrm is recording it.

thanks, i mostly wanted to see if others had this issue as well.

  • Yes I also have GCTB as a display field to check sometimes.

  • The HR part always works but the GT Balance is what usually doesn't work all the time.   I also have Stride Lenght as a data field.  That will work but GT Balance doesn't.  This a HRM issue because it's happened with my Fenix 6, 7 and 965.

  • I have experienced exactly the same issue today with my new HRM Pro Plus. Ground Contact Time Balance was not recorded.

I have another HRM Pro Plus ordered back in Oct 2022 - which works fine. Never observed any issues with it.

Wondering if this is an issue with firmware or something introduced in gadgets manufactured this year.

  • if gct balance is not being picked up on the run, i unpaired and then pair the hrm to the watch again as the others suggested. i've been running with the fr965 and hrm pro plus 3-4 times a week since i made this post and since then i think only 2 or 3 times gct balance didn't show up so i immediately discarded the run, unpaired and re-paired the hrm, start new run and gct balance showed. matches with what s.m.r experienced on their post above.
