Cannot unlock maps

Synced my watch with Garmin Express and after I unplug it I get the message " Cannot unlock maps" I've had the watch since April with no problems. I reinstalled the maps and still get the same message, though, the maps look fine when using them. Any Ideas? Oh yea, my Fenix 7 "basic model" is doing the same thing.

This has been resolved. Anyone reinstalling their map using the steps from Reinstalling TopoActive, CourseView, and Ski Maps to a Compatible Garmin Watch should no longer experience this message.

I have seen some "answers" but not all successful. I think this post below from Garmin is your best bet at this point...

Has anyone figured out how to fix this issue, just got this error message this monring and tried factory resetting watch and that did nothing. I saw on another post that file D7672050A.img in the garmin folder on computer maybe needs to be deleted but not sure if we are supposed to delete that file or not?

At some stage I had a memory issue and deleted all the .img files off my device and then reinstalled Maps via Garmin Express. Not sure if that will solve this specific issue but I would try...

Before doing that , I would make a copy of your device drive just incase you need to get a file off that at a later stage.

In garmin express I reinstalled all the map data. For me specifically the error was found in the North America topo map. However; I didn’t reinstall that file first, I did Europe, pacific, and Africa first. After reinstalling, I would unplug my watch, but would still get “cannot unlock maps”. However; once I reinstalled the problem program which I didn’t know at the time but figured it had to be the topo map North America as that was the last once to reinstall, the “cannot unlock maps” message disappeared. Hopefully this will help some of you that are experiencing this issue.

Just contacted Garmin support (chat) for this issue and was told "my help desk team is looking to a fix currently". The steps in the KB article "Reinstalling TopoActive, CourseView, and Ski Maps to a Compatible Garmin Watch" did nothing to resolve the issue for me. I asked to be notified by email when a solution was available
