Strange behaviour recovery time off the 965 in connection with Edge 1040 solar

I have made the following observation: when I record a cycling activity with my Edge 1040 solar, I receive a recovery time afterwards as normal. After synchronisation with Garmin Connect and thus the FR 965, I always receive the message "Delayed due to high activity" after 1-2 hours in the recovery time. The recovery time then stagnates for a while and reduces very slowly. However, when I record a comparable cycling activity with the FR 965, I never get this message.
The FR 965 is set up as the primary device. Before that I had the 955 and before that the 945lte and 945. I did not observe this phenomenon before.
Has anyone made a similar observation?

  • For me I have seen this message *during* a bike ride, I usually record the bike ride with my bike computer (edge 530), but also wear my 965 on the wrist (not recording on the watch). I have had the watch tell me during the ride that my recovery is delayed due to high activity, which makes sense - as the watch doesn't know I am recording this with the bike computer at that point.

One bug I have noticed with using watch + bike computer and recovery time, is that if you do a bike ride and do not sync the bike computer before hand, then it will overwrite the recovery time the watch might have accumulated, e.g.:

Recovery time 0h (on Edge and Forerunner)

I ride my bike to the running track for 30min => Edge recovery time 2h (very easy riding)

I run a track workout using the watch => 965 recovery time 48h (tough workout)

Edge recovery time still says 2h (or 1h), as I cannot sync watch or bike computer at the track (no internet).

I ride my bike back home (30min easy), Edge recovery is now maybe 3h.

At home all my devices sync, and the "last activity" (the bike ride) determines my final recovery time. I am told in 3h I am recovered, my hard track workout recovery time no longer exists.
