Forerunner 965... A big mistake buying it.

Hello, after buying the 965 (4.19) I found a lot of issues that is making me regret of buying it.

- In the treadmill, I put a 265s with the 965, 265s was giving good heart rate reading compared with my Polar H10, but the 965 was really off... The video in the attachment

- In the pool, when I swim 50 mts, the 965 shows 100mts and I didn't find a way to correct this...

- The stress measure sometimes totally stops, I see -- instead of a measurement...

Seems the best of the best watches are the Apple ones with bad battery of course, but I have Android so no way to but the Apple.

After watching a Youtube video here:

I'm more upset of buying this thing... You need a Fitbit for tracking sleeping and for heart rate the Huawei.

This watch has bad bad hardware or the software is so buggy that Garmin should not be selling it... very very disappointed...

  • Agree that theres a lot of bugs. I think the hw is good enough, but sw vice theres a lot to do for garmin. maybe will use my epix gen 2 until the watch is more stable.

  • It's like they reinvent the wheel with every device and encounter all the bugs again, the majority of which either shouldn't be an issue or are so obvious the 965 shouldn't have shipped with them. I understand they have a we team to respond to bugs but bugger all seems to get done about it. Cannot recommend the 965 with the current 4.19 firmware

  • I tried 2 965's and returned them both, not because of bugs but I just prefer my 955. The 965 screen is "prettier" but none of my preferred apps and watch faces have been converted to the 965 yet so it's useless to me, plus I use the 955 outdoors most of the time where the MIPS screen blows away the Amoled. I'm normally an Android user but I keep an older iphone around so I can use my Apple watch as well, but make no mistake the AW is not a Garmin replacement, it's a great smartwatch and good for fitness in a pinch if you forget your Garmin, but if you're serious about fitness you want the metrics of the Garmin (even if most of them are wrong hahaha!)

Finally I changed it for the Forerunner 955 Solar, it does not have the stutter the 965 has when scrolling, it looks like more responsive, let see if the measurement is reliable.

  • Hello, after buying the 965 (4.19) I found a lot of issues that is making me regret of buying it.

Bugs are annoying but I havent had any issues with my 965.
Maybe you just had a dud.

Coming from a long line of Fenix models the AMOLED screen has won me over, so clear, sharp and easy to read under any conditions.

Even when pool lap swimming, when at the wall and turning I can flick the wrist towards me and the screen comes on and I can actually read it.

Even with AMOLED I am getting about 9 to 10 days of battery which is only 1 or 2 days shorter than the fenix 7X I had previously.

Heart rate for me is just fine when running, cycling, swimming and strength but so have all the other Garmin's I have had.

  • I don't have these problems with the watch. However, I can't make a statement about swimming, but otherwise the stress measurement and heart rate measurement works very well for activities compared to the polar H10. Only in strength training there are always deviations, but they are also ok.

Do you have these problems all the time, or has it only happened once so far?

  • "In the treadmill, I put a 265s with the 965, 265s was giving good heart rate reading compared with my Polar H10"

Have you tried that during an activity as well? The normal 7/24 HR reading is not calibrated to be used during activities, consequently: it can show completely wrong data.

All garmins do that. The fact, that in your case the 265 shows correct data is just a coincidence - next time, it also could show wrong HR.

Anyone has it personal preferences, you are comparing Garmin to Garmin and not to the gold standard: Polar H10. After having the Forerunner 955, I'm happy I returned the 965, is worse, much worse. Third party watches refresh the values on the screen much faster in 955 compared to 965 and so one, as I said before and in my opinion, 965 is not ready for the public. Other thing annoying I experienced in the 965 is it does not detect well the movement of the wrist to weak up the watch, so I needed to touch the screen to have a reading, something I don't like when I'm swimming and I prefer the MIPS screen as it is always on.

Other thing I understood, optical HR in watches could work only if you don't move your wrist, as soon as you move it, it becomes completely unreliable, thus in this cases the chest strap is needed, for example when I do calisthenics or weight lifting, I don't like to wear the strap but there is no option because the difference is big, for example as I remember I've had a reading from the H10 of 134 where the watch was showing 104, very unreliable.

The problems where all the time and the technical support wrote me that they didn't think it was a hardware problem. I believe the software is bad in the 965.
