Elevation gain calculated doubled

Hey,

Just noticed very strange behavior both with my new Forrunner 965 and my Fenix 6X (both on latest firmware). The activity elevation gain is double what it should to be (i.e. 160 vs. 80 meters) on a well known course.

I noticed it first during hiking where I compared values with my friend and today the same happened on a bike ride.

Anybody having the same problem or knows how to resolve it? Didn't find useful fixes except one entry where Garmin mentioned it needed a firmware fix...

All apps are up to date.

Otherwise very happy with the devices... But honestly was expecting more reliable results considering the price tag and what these devises are build for.

Have you tried to do a calibration of altimeter using dem at begining of the ride?

Hey - thanks for your reply! I did try this. It seemed to have worked somewhat with the 965 but not for the Fenix. The elevation gain is pretty much double what Strava would have calculated. Would I need to do that every time before a ride? Anything else I might look at?

Elevation calculation is not a straight forward thing, various levels of "smoothing" are applied, and especially if your route only goes up and down in small amounts (e.g. +1, -1, +1, -1 etc.), then some algorithms will smooth that away and say no elevation gain while others will add it up and give you a high elevation gain

Can you post a link to the activity or at least the elevation profile? Why are you convinced 80m is the correct answer and not 160m?
