Garmin inconsistent logic behind using hot key [unlock/lock device]

while doing a re-setup of my FR965

reading the label for the hotkeys it shows 'lock/unlock device'

  • setting the 'lock/unlock device' hotkey should overrule the one button unlock procedure

but according to Garmin this does not work as one would think Rofl

  • If you would ask me, holding any single button to unlock is also acceptable, of course it should be worded as "lock hot key", not "unlock/lock hotkey" in that case.

What on the other hand is a design failure in my view, is the fact that the "lock key combination" and the "any unlock key" trigger in parallel if you happen to long press your lock key combination while the screen is locked. The result is a unlock and immediate re-lock for me. It seems obvious to me that when the screen is locked the "lock screen" hotkey should be disabled, and any hotkey should probably be mutually exclusive to other hotkeys, to avoid multiple actions that potentially conflict to trigger at once.

To reproduce the immediate unlock-lock, I did:

    1) Configure lock key: long press back+light

    2) Hold back + light => Screen locked

    3) Again hold back + light => Screen will shortly display unlock then go back to lock, presumably because the "long press any hotkey" (aka unlock) triggered very shortly before the lock combination triggered to reactivate the lock.

Also a UI design flaw is how the "screen is locked" icon will block your view completely if you press *any* button. So if you hit "light", simply to illuminate the screen when the gesture doesn't want to trigger, your view will be blocked by the huge locked icon. This could be fixed by a more subtle lock icon (that still allows you to see what you actually wanted to see), or by allowing short press of light without triggering this locked notification. In my eyes the only time the lock notification should be showed is when the user presses something that would have an effect if the watch was not locked, but doesn't because it is locked.
