Hello! my FR 965 does not show me the laps after training or accessing from "History". I see all the stats but no laps. With my old FR 935 I didn't have this problem. Any idea how to solve this problem?

Complementing the title I tell you that for example a continuous training of 16km the FR965 shows it as an interval of 1x16km and it does not show me the laps 16 x 1km

  • The newer watches will try to automatically detect intervals for a run that isn't a programmed workout. If intervals are detected, they're saved to the activity file and you get the view that you posted. Unfortunately the only way to see your laps is to look on the Connect app or website.

I have the same problem on my 945 LTE when I do strides at the end of a continuous run. When I look at the activity on the watch, it shows one long "warmup" interval followed by my strides, instead of the laps that I'm interested in.

  • Thanks for your answer!. In any case, the user manual in the use of the history point 6 says: To see additional information about the activity, select All stats. then it gives all the options, …”to select an interval…select intervals” …”to select a lap…select laps”, and so on with all the statistics. Open someone from Garmin because here to clarify the point?

  • Interesting.

Looking at my two past runs, one was a pre-programmed workout with alternating intervals that shows correctly in the history widget with "Intervals" between "Running Power" and "Map". And the other is a standard go-out-and-run 8k, which shows correctly in the history widget with "Laps" between the same. This is what I'd expect, and I guess that's a different behaviour to you.

Idea: sometimes I'll add an empty workout to my Garmin Calendar with the run I want to do in the name and just "lap button press" or similar in the steps. So I can plan my running week. Is that perhaps what this run was, and the auto laps got overridden by the workout details?

  • Thanks for your contribution! All my workouts are uploaded to Trainingpeaks and synced with Garmin.
Tomorrow instead of running the scheduled training I'm going to do the same training but without selecting it from the clock and we'll see what happens. I'll tell you tomorrow.

  • Additionally, do you know who we can add from Garmin to assist us on this issue?

As this support article for "Automatic Interval Categorization" implies, auto intervals will be detected based on pace. So for a normal steady state run, you won't get auto intervals. But if you do something like 8k steady state + 8 x 15 seconds strides, you will probably get auto intervals which override your normal laps when you look at the activity on the watch.

At least that's my experience. I *always* get auto intervals when I do strides (I do press LAP before and after each stride; the manual suggests that this is part of the auto interval detection algorithm.

Then again, that article also implies that that auto interval categorization only happens after an activity is uploaded, which clearly isn't the case. It also implies that you might need to press LAP manually for categorization to happen, which also doesn't seem to be the case.

In OP's case, I'm guessing maybe they ran really fast for their 17th lap (from 16.00 to 16.01) and Garmin's auto interval categorization feature doesn't work so well in that case.

EDIT: either that, or as you suggested, this happened because they did a programmed workout from Training Peaks. That's probably a lot more likely in this case, especially if it happens every time.

In general, I think if the watch thinks you did intervals (either because you selected a workout or it detected intervals automatically), it will show you interval stats on the watch instead of lap stats.)

  • Aah that's really interesting. I guess in the future I'm going to do my strides at the end as a seperate activity so it doesn't mess things up.

  • So the example of your 16km run was a programmed/suggested run? If so, it explains a lot. As others stated, if you do a training, it shows you the intervals -in your case one 16km interval and the rest of 100m-, if you are doing your own run, it shows the laps page instead with all your laps (auto/manual).

It doesn't completely mess things up, as in Garmin Connect you can still view your laps and intervals. (A lap will always be a full interval or a subsection of an interval, so you'll always be able to expand an interval to see the laps contained within.) And third-party sites like Strava will still show the original laps. It's just that when you look in your watch's history, you will only see the intervals.
