Problem Pairing Forerunner 965 with Apple iPhone SE

No problems pairing my 965 with my wifi router. No problems transferring data from the Garmin account on my computer to the Garmin app on my iPhone. Unfortunately, I am getting mysterious messages when I try to Bluetooth pair my brand new 965 with my Apple iPhone SE. Mysterious messages include: 1. "Look for the six digit pin on the device once you select to Connect it."  2. Sometimes the watch buzzes and tells me I am connected. At the same time the phone says: "Searching for Forerunner 965". Sometimes the phone connects. But then it tells me it is unable to "complete setup". "Pairing failed unable to pair your Garmin device". I have tried using the control 'Find My Phone'. Does not work. I have photographed the QR code and pressed connect a zillion times. 

NOTE: No problems pairing and transferring data with my Garmin 945

Advice? Suggestions?

    On the QR code page slide down one page on the device then you get to a "more normal" pairing page. 

    on BT settings , do you see the device?  If so I would do the following This has sorted soem BT issues for me.

    1. Forget the device in the BT settings (mine has a funny name currently like "UAT-4315')

    2. Soft reset the watch - Hold in power button until it shuts of completely

    3. Remove GC app form phone

    4. Restart phone

    5 Restart watch

    6 Re-install GC app on phone and sign in

    7 - pair the watch with the phone

    I'm using an iphone se2. The only thing I can think of is ios version. I just updated to the latest version several days ago. No problems with the 965 I got yesterday. I did it the qr code way. Hopefully it's something simple like turning them both off and on again.

    I made the (probably fatal) mistake of 'restarting' my 965. I tried deleting and reinstalling the Garmin app onto my cell phone. No help.

    When you restart the Watch (i assume you mean factory reset?) and it starts up and you get the QR code , page down . Then you get other pairing options.

    Then on the GC app go to more (...) / Garmin Devices / Select Add Device and try it that way.

    Ive had no issues . There is also a new GC app today/yesterday so update that also. V 4.66.0.24

    Are you able to see the device on the BT settings on the iPhone (Note mine is referenced as UAT-and four numbers ) A bug...
