Incorrect High Heart Rate during Non-Activity

I was out for a casual walk this morning and the 965 started showing a heart rate in the 140-150 range (my normal walking heart rate is typically 60-70).  I stopped walking to give the watch a moment to collects its thoughts and see if it would give me a valid value.  It did not, so I did a hard reset and that seemed to fix the issue (there is a high-ish reading a bit later, but I can't be 100% certain that was not accurate).

I'm fair skinned and my watch is worn snug against my wrist.  My cadence during the walk was nowhere near what the HR was displayed as.  I did not start an activity.

  • Yes, there are serious issues with the HR sensors (most probably software related) across different garmin devices: sometimes they suddenly start to report unrealistically high or low HR and just come back after several (sometimes 20 minutes later).

    Please report it to https://support.garmin.com

  • Thanks - they suggested I "reset the sensor" which entails turning off the all-day HR, doing a hard-reset, waiting 1 minute, then turning back on and re-enabling the all-day HR.  Not very confident that will do anything more than a hard reset, but it's something for others out there to try if they are having a similar issue.

  • Hi - after 2 years on my 945 LTE it has gone crazy since the last software update.  I did the hard re-set and at the moment it does seem to have worked.   Give it a go.
