Pace display when following a workout

I created a workout for a 25k race I doing yesterday which broke it into 4 steps. Looked to me that the 965 uses the instant pace rather than the lap pace for each step which isn't great given that with hills instant pace will go up/down. Autolap was turned off as I wanted to see what I managed for each of the steps afterwards but it was really the average pace for each section I cared about.

Also I found the oil gauge like display of where I was in the range pretty hard to see, maybe a thicker bar with a more stand out colour as I'd no problem seeing the one on my old 945.

  • I noticed yesterday that the workout from Sunday didn't go away but was in the calendar again for Monday as well. It wasn't showing in the app or on the GC website. Restarting the watch didn't help but it went away when I created a new workout for a race next Sunday.

Thought it would be a good idea to let Garmin support know so I opened a chat session where I explained it only to be told to joint the beta for the 965 of which I believe there isn't one yet. I gave up at that stage!

  • Yip it is on instant pace ...hard to modulate , especially with narrow pace bands

Almost better to set a up. alap pace and last lap pace as watch displays

Maybe pace pro works differently , never tried that
