Always on Display - during specific activities only?

I might be overlooking it, but is there an option to enable/disable the Always On Display for specific activities? For example, I am interested in having the AOD on while doing Strength exercise, but not while Hiking. I know I can adjust the overall "During Activity" option, but that adjusts every activity. Is it possible to have distinct settings for individual activities? Or is the AOD setting an all-or-none option?

  • for that matter- I'd like to turn up the brightness for swims from level 2 to 3, but keep all the others the same.

  • I have a 965, and some menus they seem to be in beta mode!!! hope Garmin will upgrade!!

  • I need AOD wile swimming, without change it every time I enter the pool!!! Angry

  • Agreed!

I want AOD on for indoor swimming & indoor cycling, as these are the situations where I am fine with a bit of battery drain (seldom longer than 1h30 sessions, able to easily charge before/after sessions, pushing the limits so don't have the luxury of flipping my wrist each time)

I DO NOT want AOD for outdoor activities and especially not for the triathlon activity (much longer sessions & often race conditions, so battery anxiety always creeps in even though it's not actually an issue, flipping the wrist during outdoor activities is easy enough so that AOD simply isn't required.)

  • I found an easy solution...long press back button will display on or off. When off it will not assume the gesture to turn on...but is ok! Long button I configured going to display setings when long press...nice and easy!!

You find that ok, nice and easy??

I wouldn’t call this a work around. But if it works for you, it works for you.

  • ...way better than previous, having to go to settings-system-display-during activities-always on display. Yeap, it should remember the gesture on. Positive side?...it does not drain battery with false gestures ^_^´

  • Hey pedro, seems like an OK solution, but on my device holding the back button goes to music controls (which i quite like). So I'm assuming you reprogrammed the back button (1* where/how did you do this?). But then 2* how do you access your music controls during an activity if the back button now is a display on/off button?

    Thanks!!

  • Hi Adi, I' use a small clip mp3 player for music. I have better control on what music to listen, better sound quality and more battery on the watch. For changing shortcuts go to settings-system-hot keys and there you have 7 options to change. Hope you'll find the combination that soot you. Wink
