Bugs / Differences after a week ownership of the FR965 compared to the epix Gen 2

Had my epix over a year, and my forerunner 965 for a week, this is the difference I found, so far that stood out.

  • Torch:. When going to the torch, it always goes to the 2nd brightness setting. On the epix ot would go the last brightness level
  • Torch: cannot quit out of torch by holding your hand over the screen, on the epix this works
  • Garmin Pay: when you purchase an item, it quits out of the card screen. On the epix it stays there until you quit out
  • Always on display: Done three night trail runs so far, have the screen to always on for activities, yet it still goes to a blank / black screen. Having to tap the sreen or do a gesture for it to come back. Update Tried again last night and thsi time display did not turn off (which is expected) checked previous runs and they weren't during my Sleep settings.
  • Buttons: Not as tactile as the epix, still has a click, but softer
  • Audio: from watch the beeps are quieter than the epix.
  • Audio: from headphones, very average, base distorts, the callouts distort. Compared to the epix, the epix audio is a lot better (using Shokz Open Rup Pro)
  • Altitude calibration: I find setting the Altimeter on Manual, and auto calibrate at night more accurate. On the epix when starting an event, it would self-calibrate, and ask you of ok and give you the current altitude (where you can accept or re-calibrate) on the (965, the same setting it says it does this, but form practice it never does.
  • New Bug, when I was navigating a course last night, with touch enabled, the touch to zoom or move the map did not work, the zoom buttons were also not showing. Only has happened the once so far

  • Is Epix OS more polished this 965 . I returned mine Epix as screen was reflective . Hard to see outside .

How is 965 screen outdoors . Also isn’t Epix 2 years old . Garmin might not support it next year with new features .

  • Epix was only a year old in January. The screen on the 965 is great, to be honest I can read both outside without issue. That said, my epix is the base model so same glass as 965.

  • I had the Epix with sapphire screen which was reflective indoors ..

  • Mine shows the graph for both...
Tried a hard reset, hold down the power button, until it finally turns off, then turn back on?

  • I really never had an issue with the epix, I had the sapphire version.

But the 965 screen IMO is better, mostly due to the size, yes less reflective too, but just seems sharper, maybe the screen curvature helps?

Nope its not the curvature, its genuinely a higher res screen, and its great.
It even have has longer battery life than the Epix2.

fenix7X and Epix2 I had, sold them both.

    FR 965 = 454 x 454 pixels

    Epix 2 = 416 x 416 pixels

  • What is your battery stamina? I'm only on my first charge cycle so the gauge may not have calibrated properly yet, but currently it's pointing towards half of the battery time I got from the Epix :-(

  • One thing I can't stand about the 965 is why can't I swipe to dismiss a notification from the notification screen?  On the Epix you can swipe to dismiss without opening each notification individually.  The 965 adds steps, tap to open, tap the screen to bring up option to dismiss, tap to dismiss.  It's annoying.

  • Agreed, it is very frustrating that so many little things like this are different between the two watches, with the Epix being the more convenient to use. Another one that really gets me is that the flashlight on the 965 resets to two rings every time you go out and back in. The Epix maintains the last setting used.

They were fine the next day…
