Map panning is very slow when reviewing a run

On the Forerunner 965, when reviewing a recent run the map view behaves kind of awkward.

The track that I ran is displayed nicely spaced and centered in the display.
Start button toggles between zoom in/out - pan up/down - pan left/right.
Zoom works as expected with the up/down buttons.

However, when panning, the behaviour is this: A single press of the up/down button does nothing. The map is panned only a little bit, say 10-20%, after pressing and holding the up or down button for about 5 seconds. While pressing the button, the screen stays dark.
Touch-and-drag doesn't work in this view.

I would expect the behaviour of this map view to be the same or comparable to the normal map view on the watch.

Software 3.58; maps recently updated through Garmin Express.

  • When (nearly) at maximum zoom, the map moves about 1 pixel at a time when panning up/down/left/right with single presses of the buttons.

  • 945 LTE has the same problem (which has been reported). Never change, Garmin.

  • When I first looked at a map, I expected the touch screen to work the same as google maps on my phone. The button interface is clunky as *** on a touchscreen devices & to say it's slow is an understatement! I thought it had just hung or something until I saw it had moved a tiny bit after a long wait.

  • Garmin isn't good at software and UX IMO. Doesn't seem to be in their DNA. IMO, the first step is to care. I searched this problem and found reports going back to 945 (released 4 years ago). Doesn't seem like this kind of thing is a priority for management, and unfortunately the majority of users (including myself) just accept this stuff as part of the cost of using a Garmin (same as being an unpaid beta tester).

And actually, on my 945 LTE, the map view is *always* like this, even during a run, which makes it a lot less useful then it could be.
