Changing Wrists in the Middle of the Night Stops Sleep Tracking

Hi,

I’ve noticed on a few occasions that changing my Forerunner 955 from one wrist to the other during the night causes sleep tracking to stop dead at that point, with no morning report generated (even though no buttons are pressed).

For example, last night I fell asleep at approximately 22:24. At around 02:38 I woke briefly due to wrist irritation (usqually from the watch being too tight or moisture under the strap). I swapped the watch from my left wrist to my right wrist, fell back asleep almost immediately, and then woke for the day at 06:38.

When I woke up, the watch was already on the standard clock screen with no option for a Morning Report. Reviewing the data shows sleep ending at 02:38, with no naps or indication of sleep after that time. I know sleep duration can be edited in the app, but doing so only fills the remainder with light sleep and does not populate other metrics (e.g. HRV tracking).

The only potential trigger I can think of is the brief ~5-second period during the wrist change when no heart rate is detected.

This is a minor issue that I experience roughly once every couple of months, but I thought it was worth reporting. Thanks

  • This is most likely the cause as the watch is detecting enough movement and interruption in heart rate that it stops recording sleep for that night when you change wrists.

  • if you get up in the middle of the night, for example’s sake, to go get a glass of water, the watch will pick it up as awake time until you go back to bed or activate your morning report to end the sleep. With changing wrists (or likely having no heart rate detected), this option does not exist. It completely stops the sleep there and then and skips the morning report. There is no option to resume sleep monitoring. This is where the bug is.
