values that do not reflect reality

I’ve noticed a significant inconsistency in the way the ForeRunner 955 performs certain calculations,

especially when the watch is not worn at night and is only used for running. In these cases, the device generates values that do not reflect reality,

such as those related to heart rate reserve or fitness age.

The issue is compounded because these incorrect values serve as the basis for other metrics — such as recovery status or training suggestions —

which ends up affecting the entire chain of calculations. In the end, the results lose coherence and the recommendations stop making sense.

I believe Garmin should review this behavior or introduce an option to adjust the calculation mode when the device is not used continuously, particularly during nighttime rest.

  • such as those related to heart rate reserve or fitness age.

If you use HR zones based on heart rate reserve %, you can opt to use a manually entered resting HR value to determine your HR zones, as opposed to the average resting HR that's automatically determined by the watch. (I don't think this manually entered resting HR will be used for fitness age or heath status, though.)

    In the Connect app:

    - make sure your FR955 is connected via bluetooth

    - tap on the device icon in the upper right hand corner

    - tap on your device

    - select User Profile > Heart Rate & Power Zones > Heart Rate > Resting Heart Rate

    - Turn off the Use Average toggle

    - Tap Set Custom and set a resting HR value

You can also change the same setting on the watch itself:

    - hold UP, select User Profile > Heart Rate & Power Zones > Heart Rate > Resting Heart Rate, turn off Use Average, select Set Custom, set a value for your resting HR
