After a 90 min. run the altimeter widget looked like this:
It seems that no altitude was recorded until the run started, or the altimeter widget crashed and restarted. I guess it's a one-off, but in case anyone else noticed similar issues it may be worth reporting to Garmin. Not that a fix is likely for a wearable past its commercial prime time.
