Sleep Tracking Not Working Properly Since Summer 2025

(Posted Late November 2025)The sleep tracking feature hasn't worked properly since summer of 2025, despite the constant software update. Sometimes it doesn't track at all, alot of times it stops tracking middle of the night and shows my heart rate as flat. This makes me wanna switch brands.

I would attached a picture but the upload feature keeps returning error.

Update Dec 7th 2025: I did a full reset (Settings -> System -> Rest->Delete Data and Rest Settings), the sleep tracking worked for a couple days then stopped working again.

  • I can also confirm that since the summer, the Forerunner 955 has been very unreliable and, in my case, very often fails to detect sleep at all.

Garmin seems to have lost interest in the 955 in the meantime, and these unreliable updates are significantly degrading the watch.
If you had a low opinion of Garmin, you might think that they are trying to encourage users to buy a new watch.

  • Yep this happened to me as well. The times it happened, it also stopped tracking steps.

I'd only had this watch 3 or 4 months, it was a replacement for a previous one where the altimeter failed! So overall I'm pretty unimpressed with the reliability of the 955. Beginning to seem like there are widespread issues with it. I'm currently waiting for it to be replaced again.

  • If you see this issue with your device please reach out to your local support team for further assistance. You can find contact options for support at Support.Garmin.com

  • They said they cannot help because the warranty has ended

  • I have had the same issue since June when the 23.20 was installed. HR flatlining, steps not counted, wifi connection doesnt work and everything else connected to HR/Step tracking.

  • For me, the problems only started after a software update. The watch often doesn't record any sleep data at all, or only records it for far too short a period of time: 1-2 hours per night.
In my opinion, Garmin has robbed the Forerunner 955 of this function due to a software bug and is now saying that the warranty has expired.
I would almost call this software obsolescence.

A year ago, the 955 was still working fine, then sloppy, untested updates robbed many watches of their functions?
Garmin doesn't give us the option to revert to an older software version to verify whether that would help.

  • Yes! I need to downgrade to older version. Please, Garmin, let users downgrade!

  • Would you be able to give any indication whether there is a particular hardware or software issue that has been identified as causing this fault? My replacement watch has just (finally!!) been shipped and I am keen to know whether I can expect it to last for longer than the three months the previous one did before developing the fault.

  • They said they cannot help because the warranty has ended
