Garmin Coach - tempo run and 1h strength workout on the same day

I am on a 17 week Marathon training plan with Garmin Coach. I often get tempo run and 1h strength workout on the same day which sometimes is quite demanding.

Is there any recommendation how the schedule these two during the day? (one after another, brake in between?) 

  • One of the better ways to add strength into an already tough schedule is to have easy/recovery days easy... but then bunch workouts into your hard days.  So having your hard run workouts and gym workouts on the same day. 

    So you have energy and umpf to perform these, best to separate them fairly far apart (morning and early evening).  If you working to a goal of a marathon, you will want to focus your energy to that workout - so timing your run when you will do your best (likely morning while fresh).  Refuel and recover as best you can so you can then lift well in the evening.  If you were in an offseason or base building mode you might swap them so that you are fresh for your stength work, since likely the run workouts on 'hard days' wont be that taxing.  

    Can also add strength into aerobic days if you know there is a rest day the next day maybe or a recovery week coming very soon.
