Incorrect heart rate readings when device is off hand.

Today me and my wife updated to last stable release 26.08. We both were on beta before, 26.07. I wear 955, she has 255s music.

My wife said that her heartrate reading was not steady and kinda high. I took her watch for a reboot and placed it on the bed. I was surprised to see it had pulse reading. I tried it with my watch as well and there also were pulse reading. To make it clear, both watches were on the bed, on a thick matrass.

What you observed is to be expected: When the back of the watch is covered, it expects to find your pulse, so it tries to latch onto the strongest optical rhythm it finds (this is a simplification, but anyway). If it's lying on a bed, the slight flickering of the room led lights through the gaps between the watch and the fabric is such a rhythm. So if anything, it shows how faint signals the watch has to be able to detect when it measures your heart rate.

This is also why the watch result locks onto your walking/running cadence if blood flow on the surface of the wrist is low.
