Audio Prompts During Structured Workout

On my old 945 I would get an audio prompt along with the vibration on the watch with each step when doing a structured run workout. It was something spoken like "Go Hard" or "Recover" (I can't remember the exact words) with each new transition. On my 955 I get a voice prompt if my heart rate is out of range for the particular step that I am on and I also get a vibration on the watch when going from a sprint to a recovery period, for example, but I can't seem to find a way to get the voice through my headphones. I get the vibration on the 955, just not the voice telling me it's time to run hard or recover along with the vibration like I used to be able to on my 945. I have all audio prompts enabled in the settings. Any ideas?

  • Another one which has disappeared is lap numbering (relayed through the Android App).

I haven't paired my headphones with the phone since the excessive volume of the prompt beeps was strongly correlated with my Aeropex headphones going tinkly (thankfully just in warranty, so a no quibbles replacement).

  • I am experiencing similar.  I recently upgraded from the 945 to the 965.  I have autolap set to 1mile and lap alerts turned on.  I would expect to hear "Lap X" followed by the time elapsed for the lap.  However, on the 965 this alert only works if the lap is a mile or longer.  For example, if i have a workout of 2 miles easy, 8x400m with 400m recovery, and 2mile easy I get the expected alert during only the warmup and cooldown.  Interestingly, the alerts during the cooldown continue with the expected lap number.  I will get lap notifications for laps 1, 2, 19, and 20.

I reached out to Garmin support and was told this is expected.  I found that hard to believe as this has always worked on my forerunner 235 and 945 since 2019.  I then tried to fund documentation of this "change" but came up empty.  Would be nice to get confirmation.

Either way, this is a step backwards in functionality and makes no sense.
