I’ve owned two Garmins so far - a Forerunner 245 and now a 955 - and both have developed the same problem after about three years: the screen starts to delaminate. With the 955, the display is actually lifting up and can be pressed back down, which obviously isn’t ideal. What’s strange is that both times, the issue seemed to appear or worsen after being at higher altitudes, around 8,000 feet or more. I’ve spent plenty of time at altitude before without any problems, so I’m not sure if it’s the direct cause or just when I notice it. The 955 held up fine for a while, then after another trip to altitude, the entire screen basically separated.
I’m wondering if this is a known problem or if I’m just unlucky. Is there something I might be doing wrong that could cause adhesive failure? And if I switch to a Fenix 8, especially with the titanium and sapphire build, can I expect better durability long-term? I love the watches overall, but I’d like to buy something that won’t fall apart after a few years.
