Cut off time / Way point Timer?

I'm running the 1s Trail Run where there is a chance that i might miss a cut off at one of the 3 aid stations.

Till now i have never really had a issue with cut off's as either the races was too short or road races normally only has a cut of at the end or if a cut off is at a way point there is normally a pacing group that if you stay ahead of them or with them you know you are save.

Is there a way to get a data screen on Trail Running that shows me a time remaining for next way point (based on a time entered for each way point) not time too next way point?

I read the post about using pace pro in 3 segments but i'm not using a pace pro plan as i have no idea what to expect on the course and i don't want to plan on a fast decent and then it is bouldering with a jeap track uphill where you can run and then i have to reverse the entire pace pro plan on the fly.

I would if possible just like a you have x time to do this way point and you have y time left?

  • There's a rumour that cutoff times are coming to the Garmin course planner in the future. I'm not sure which watches would support it tho. Probably only newer watches (us fr955 owners would prolly be out of luck)

    In the meantime:

    - this Connect IQ data field supports checkpoints and and displaying the distance to reach the next checkpoint:

    Ultra Field: https://apps.garmin.com/apps/b61ec459-c221-43fc-8b4b-b9730d642368?tid=0

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to support cutoff times.

    - This field is designed for cutoffs:

    CutOff: apps.garmin.com/.../15665c56-5f39-4c49-aea6-e9a4b1249d7a

Only downside I can see is that you have to manually tell the app when you've reached a checkpoint by using the app menu (which requires a lot of button presses).

  • Thanks for the reply. It's a shame that a feature that sounds so logical for a sports watch that already has way-points doesn't have a cut off time for said way point.

Anyway i found a way to kinda do it, i just renamed the way points:
    0930-Road Crossing
    1130-Dam
    1300-Resort
    1400-Forest

I didn't have to remember the cut off times, it showed me a distance to the next way point and i just set the Watch screen as the next one in line so i could read the cut of time, push down see the current time and try and do a bit of math in my head after 6 hours running around in the mountains, but it worked well enough.
