heart rate monitor no longer works after an update. (BMX: 0.0.0(!)))

I have had firmware 23.20 on my watch for almost months and everything works without any problems. This morning I was offered an update, after the reboot the heart rate monitor stopped working.

The BMX: 0.0.0(!) is displayed on the firmware info page on the watch.
WHR also shows: 0.00.0

Any advice on how to fix the problem?

  • HAve you tried reinstall software?

Settings > About  Press light button 8 times , select Reinstall software.

Reruns teh last install doesn't impact settings etc  Many people seem to have had success with this , sorted a few of my issues on 965 also

Next option contact support , I generally use the chat from the support page

  • Same issue here.

HR Monitor and all sensors (step counter) stopped working today. The green/red sensor lights don't even turn on while wearing. I have tried:

    -Powering off/on

-Plugging into my PC and connecting to Garmin Express

-Settings > About > Light Button 8Xs update.

No luck with any of these. Going to try the beta program to see if it provides an update that fixes. Otherwise maybe look into how to downgrade firmare

  • before I read your reply, I switched to the beta program, which solved my problem with the heart rate monitor.

Next time I'll try Settings -> About -> press the light button 8 times and reinstall software first.

    Thanks for the good advice

  • So I updated to the latest beta firmware (24.10) and it didn't make a difference. Tried the Light Button 8X to reinstall. Then I manually downgraded by copying a firmware an old GUPDATE.GSP to the root of my watch, then upgraded again...nothing was working.

BUT THEN... I read something on a reddit thread that sounded totally implausible. Some guy suggested reinstalling the current firmware while putting your watch in the fridge. I was totally out of options so I gave it a shot.. AND IT WORKED!

Somehow PUTTING MY WATCH IN THE FRIDGE WHILE REINSTALLING THE SAME FIRMWARE FIXED IT. Now I see BMX (20.6.2) WHR 20.06.02 the HR, step counter, pulse ox and all my sensors work.

I had been updating/downgrading/reinstalling firmware for more than an hour.. but first shot in the fridge and it was fixed.

I tried reinstalling the firmware when my watch had returned to room temp to see if the sensor problem would come back - it did not. And to my knowledge the initial failure didn't coincide with an update... so really I'm at a loss for exactly is causing this issue or how exactly it is being resolved. But the fact that people seem to be having success reinstalling firmware while the watch is cooler would seem to point to an issue that is, at least in part, rooted in the hardware, so I'm not sure if this is a lasting solution. I guess we'll see.

Would love to know if this works for you.
