23.20: HR-based workout: the heart rate gauge indicator only appears after several seconds every time when navigating to the HR workout screen

When running any kind of HR based workout (like DSW, or interval training), the initial screen has a heart rate gauge on top (with red/green/red zones to let me know if I am running too slow or fast).

However, upon navigating to this screen, the HR gauge doesn't show a 'needle' for cca 5 seconds. This means that if I switch to this screen during workout, I always have to wait 5 seconds before seeing if my tempo/HR is okay or not.

This delay seems completely like an UI issue, because the watch knows my actual heart rate every second - it just decides not to show it after navigating to the gauge screen.

  • You do not understand Garmin new UI approach. First they have changed from larger triangle to narrow dash to exclude people which cannot sharply see without glasses, and now they are testing remove of this dash at all.

It looks like displaying this dash costs $1 every time user want it and they desperately needs savings.

But jokes apart, I really curious what is going behind scene in FW which is able measure HRV within 50 - 60 ms and cannot draw simple dash or better, triangle.

  • To me this seems like a weird UI issue - watches have actual heartrate all the time.

I wonder if the amoled models have a same bug?
