955 loses connection to HRM Pro Plus

Hi everyone,

I purchased a new Forerunner 955 a week ago and I can’t it to keep a connection with my HRM Pro Plus.
I’ve seen other similar threads going back a few years with no clear resolution. Does anyone know how/ if this can be fixed?

The watch software is up to date. New battery in the HRM. If I connect the HRM to the watch it will track HR for a few seconds and then stops. If I scroll back to settings and look for the HRM connection it will say ‘searching’ and then it will connect, and disconnect within seconds.

Thinking it was the HRM strap I reconnected it to my old 735XT and it works fine so I’m pretty certain it’s the new watch.

Any help is appreciated.

  • I bought the HRM Pro Plus a couple weeks ago. I've had zero issues pairing to my 955 for running or cycling, both indoors and outdoors. Also, no issues pairing to my Apple TV (Zwift).

How are you pairing to your 955? I'm using ANT+ w/the 955 and Bluetooth for Zwift.

  • I’m using ANT+ as default but the issue happens with Bluetooth also

  • New battery usually clears up any rare connection issues for me. Also try disabling Source Switching in the Wrist Heart Rate menu, whilst the strap is connected. This option means the wrist HR is disabled when the strap is in use.

  • Just making sure: Are you doing this while starting an activity? Because in normal watch mode, the HRM connection is not supposed to be kept alive. Only when you are in an activity (or about to start one), or if you are in the Heart Rate widget.

  • Not all 2032 Lithium coin cells are the same. Some shops sell old stock which only has a year or so of shelf life.

I've taken "new" 2032 cells out of the pack and had them not work correctly in either my car key fob or in a HRM.

Don't buy a packet of 2032s without checking the expiry date on the packet. A good manufacturer's cells will have expiry dates that are ten years or more in the future.

Let's just say I won't be buying them from Lidl in the future.
