BUG REPORT - selecting "Resume Later" keeps the GPS turned on

For version 22.24, when selecting "Resume Later" after stopping an activity the GPS remains on even though the activity is suspended and the watch face is shown. This is not the intention of "Resume Later" and was not the functionality in previous revisions.

  • This definitely happened as far back as v19.18 for me.  It has probably always been like this.

It may be related to Live Track, as Live Track also stays active during Resume Later.

Garmin may have decided that it is necessary to keep Live Track active during Resume Later by design and thus it is necessary to keep the GPS active.  If that is the case then GPS could possibly be turned off during Resume Later if Live Track is not enabled.

Also, it may be by design that GPS stays active in order that you don't have to wait to re-acquire satellites when resuming an activity.  However, this isn't a strong argument since GPS acquisition on the 955 is so fast, but it may be slower on other watches of the same generation that do not have such a good antenna.

It may therefore be entirely intentional and not a bug.

I see now that you posted the same thing 12 days ago about a previous release and I was the only one that replied.  I see also that you "liked" your own post.  Rather than repeating this post again why not report it directly to Garmin product support and see what response you get? They seldom pick up bugs from here unless they are critical i.e. lot of people are adversely affected by them.  This one isn't a biggy - it might not even be a bug - else you would have had more of a response.
