Intensity minutes calculations - missing activities

I noticed that some of my activities in garmin connect are missing in weekly intensity minutes calculation. Last week, I completed two virtual bike rides on Zwift. The first one, a short ride on April 2nd, was calculated in the weekly intensity minutes. But the second ride, a longer ride on April 4th, was not calculated. Although the second ride is listed under activities with all the recorded data, it does not show up in the 7d intensity minutes list. Any idea how to fix it?

  • Same problem occurred today as well. I completed a hardish training session with Zwift. Garmin connect still shows zero intensity minutes after today's virtual ride. Why Garmin connect is not taking my ride into account? Sometimes it does though????

  • Intensity Minutes are not compatible with third-party activities. See the following section from How Are Intensity Minutes Earned?

"Third-party recorded activities or activities from the Tacx TrainingTm Apps are not compatible with the Intensity Minutes feature. If you wear your Garmin device that does not require the 10 minute threshold while recording activities using third-party apps (such as Zwift) or non-Intensity Minutes compatible devices and upload these to Garmin Connect, you may see a very small number of intensity minutes in your activity details page in Connect for these activities. This is normal, due to the heart rate still being recorded in the background on your device."

Without looking at your fit files I'm not exactly sure why you were rewarded Intensity Minutes for some of those activities. One reason I can think of is if you were wearing a chest strap which was paired to the Connect app during that time. I am happy to look into it if you would like, but it's by design to not receive those Intensity Minutes with Zwift (or any) third-party activities.

  • Many thanks for this explanation which clears my confusion. As you put it, I guess the chest strap was connected to my Garmin Connect on my phone. Thanks for your time.
