I'm on the latest software version 22.24, and the fr 955 maps continue to have problems. when entering any activity (running, walking, trail, , etc, or navigation),
when going to the map screen, and after holding the middle button (up/menu), entering pan zoom the pan/zoom options, below we have other map options, like map layers, navigation, etc, when changing some options of map layers, and when changing or activating some things there, such as high contrast theme, level of details, showing heat map zones, etc., the clock restarts when returning to the map screen, restarting and making the use of the map inaccessible, until everything goes back to the options that were previously available.
If I go to map configurations on main menu (pressing and holding menu, then go to maps... and change that configurations too, like dark mode, high contrast, detail level, etc) the watch restarts too, when on map screen. 
It's a shame that after three years, the maps still don't work as they should. Garmin should have someone test these options before making resources available that cannot be changed without the watch not being able to handle it and restarting randomly. On my wife's Fenix 7s, things work much better. I'm wondering if this will be my last forerunner,
I feel like the garmin software team was like red bull racing for the fenix series and racing bulls (team b) was assigned to make the forerunner software. What a shame, fix this, it's been three years now.
