Gear Combo (Di2) Font size

Hi. Is it possible for Garmin to update the font size for gear combo (Di2) to match other data fields.

eg. 34-19 font size could be bigger. Very hard to see even with less fields.

Thank you

  • I have a 3rd party Connect IQ data field that might be able to help you. It’s called AppBuilder 5 and it’s kinda like “excel for your garmin”.

Use the following settings (I’m not a cyclist, so hopefully I’m understanding the gear combo data field correctly):

Label: GEAR COMBO (or whatever you want)

    Formula:

    frontgearsize + '-' + reargearsize

    Display Format: Auto

This *should* display the gear combo with the largest text possible, although there have been bug reports over the years of Connect IQ data fields displaying text that’s too small (due to reasons out of the control of devs).

    NOTE:

    - The minus sign / dash in the formula is surrounded by straight single quotes ('), not apostrophes (‘). To type a straight single quote on your phone, long press the apostrophe key: a popover should appear with symbols that resemble an apostrophe, including the straight single quote — tap on the quote

    - The minus sign / dash in the formula is just a regular minus sign (-). Don’t let your phone change it to something else, like an em dash (—)

    - Or better yet, just copy and paste the formula from this page into the Connect IQ app settings

I tested this on my FR955 with a canned formula which displays “52-21” (since I lack a bike / set of gears) and the text was displayed as large as possible. So I’m hoping this will work just as well for the real thing.

  • Here’s a link to the actual data field haha:

I would’ve edited the original comment, but the forum won’t let me :/

  • Worked perfectly.  Thank you sir.  Am I able to use the same trick for all the other data fields?

  • You're welcome!

Some of those fields can be recreated in AppBuilder 5, but based on your pic, it looks like gear combo is the only field where the value doesn't fill the available space, so I'm not sure if there would be any point. (Additionally, although AppBuilder 5 has several "clones" in the store to facilitate multiple uses with different settings, you can only add up to 2 Connect IQ data fields in a single activity for FR955, so at best you'd only be able to replace one additional built-in field.)

  • Thank you. Will give it a run on a bike today.
