Update Stuck

3 days ago, I updated my watch to version 22.22. The watch got stuck on the loading screen when restarting. I did a hard reset. It doesn't make any progress. When I connect it to the PC, it doesn't see it. As far as I understand, the software is broken. Is there anything I can do?

  • Have you tried:

    - turning the watch off (hold LIGHT until the watch powers off)

    - connecting to PC

    - opening Garmin Express on the PC

    - turning the watch on (hold LIGHT until the watch powers on)

(Yeah, I know you said you tried connecting it to the PC, but I’m curious if i would help to turn on the watch while Express is already open. I’m guessing this probably won’t work tho.)

If that doesn’t work, you could try an unprompted factory reset (you will lose all settings and data that haven’t been backed up, although Physio TrueUp should restore some of the short-term activity tracking / fitness data that you might care about).

This is obviously a last resort, but if nothing else is working….

(despite the fact that the support article is for “your Garmin outdoor watch”, I’m pretty sure this information also applies to Forerunners, not just Fenix watches)

    Unprompted Reset

This reset will clear all settings, user profile, records, activity history, Connect IQ content, and other data.

It is recommended to read the steps in full below before performing them.

    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.

      • You may need to hold LIGHT for up to 30 seconds to turn the watch off.

    2. Press and hold BACK and START/STOP.

    3. Press LIGHT to power the watch on while holding these two buttons.

    4. After the first beep release START/STOP.

    5. After the second beep release the remaining buttons.

The reset is successful if the watch finishes powering up and goes through initial setup. Try the steps again if initial setup does not appear. Following the reset, place the watch outside with a clear view of the sky for a minimum of 20 minutes to acquire satellite data.

  • I've tried everything you've said, but the update does not continue in any way. The software may be damaged. It keeps getting stuck on the screen in the picture.

  • Is there anyone who can help with this issue?

  • Have you contacted Garmin support by Chat / Email / Call?   Here is a link see the buttons at the base, I normally use chat

  • It looks very much like the bootloader is broken, assuming it was the first of the two update screens.

    Definitely contact Garmin Support directly.
