GPS problem, again...

Did someone have problems with GPS these days?

FR 955 solar, full updated, time-by-time synchronized with Garmin Express, and of course everyday synchronization...

One running activity few days ago: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/18232200395

In general I catch very quick "green light" before running activity. And I have feeling that I lose GPS after ~1km...

What can I do?

  • Hello

You probably have to bring more information to the table! What version is your GPS? And what are your gps-settings? Your record is that smart or per second?

I looked at one of the GPS-jamming sites, you area have not been infected/registered any gps-jamming in the area you have been running.

One thing though It's a betaversion try ugrading to the latest Beta FW (After upgrading, power off your FR955 for a minute or two, then power on, Sync with your mobile or computer to get the latest EPO-update. Then wait for OK on the watch and go for your run and.

  • GPS version: 13

    Software version: 22.21

GPS Settings: most time I preffer "All + Multi-Band", but I try also with "auto select" and other options...

    Data recording: smart

    Log HRV: On

    Performance Condition: On

Every time before activity I wait 1-2min after GPS become a "green light"...

  • Software version: 22.21

    Well, this is beta software.
I hope you realize that you have joined the beta program and thus I would suggest you file a bug there and maybe start a discussion there, too.

  • I've been having problems with my Forerunner 955 dropping GPS connection. At least that's what appears to be happening. The clock keeps running, it keeps tracking my cadence accurately, heart rate accurately (mostly) but the distance just stops. Today it stayed wedged at 8.56 miles for nearly 3 miles, and told me I was "running" at a 28-minute-mile pace. I'm not sure I could walk that slowly. This happened several times today. I also got a 34-minute mile, a 16-minute mile and a 14-minute mile. When I calculated my actual run distance on Map My Run after I got home, my average speed for the distance I ran was about 8:35 minute mile. I know it's not a problem with satellite coverage in the area because the other runners I was with had no problem getting GPS on their Garmin devices and their pace / distance readings were accurate. There's something wrong with my watch and I'm wondering how to fix? I have the GPS setting on the "most accurate" option already. Other ideas?

  • Did it work upgrading the FW and powering FR955 off/on???
My experience is that Datarecording smart is a bad idea. Try chaning it to 1 second.

  • ALWAYS provide the necessary information like FW version and your GPS settings and datarecording (smart vs. 1 sec).

  • Thanks for these suggestions. I did change data recording to 1 second. Will try upgrading FW next.

  • Software is version 21.22 and says it's up to date.

  • It is interesting that I am also using Map My Run on mobile phone to track my running activities :) (just because I have "history with 10+ years of running" on Map My Run app)...

I thought that maybe it could be a problem because I am trcking one running activity in the same time with FR955 + Map My Run app on iphone , so I tried next:

    - tracking walking activities only with FR955 (but I got the same GPS problem after some time)

    - turn off bluetooth on mobile device just to be sure that this two device are independent (I just want to be sure that FR955 is taking GPS signal independent; also of course I sync mobile and FR before activity)

Few weeks ago my friend also bought FR955 and we will try in next days to put both devices on cable and computer, and we will compare data and files on both devices...  Maybe we will find something different.

Is it possible that devices have "GPS hardware problem"? Do someone have similar experiences?

  • Could you provide some running activities to compare your problem too?

    Few more from my side:

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/17975137423 GPS just stopped after 0.5km

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/17872076450 the same, after 1km it just stopped...

Evey other stat is correct. Just GPS signal and this tracking line is not correct.

So, if device know my correct distance*, cadence, steps, ascent/descent, stride length... HOW it is possible to not have correct GPS track?

*I am comparing distance with Map My Run app, and, for example 5km run, I have ~200m difference between FR and Map My Run App. Let say it is acceptable difference.
