Yet another watch stuck in boot loop

I was charging my watch this morning. As I disconnected the charger, the watch reset and is now stuck in the dreaded boot loop. I've tried restarting, doing the master reset (it works, I hear the two beeps), but it's still stuck on the boot loop.

I guess there's not much else to try. Any other magical step I could try?

I've already sent an email to support, but the watch is likely not in warranty anymore (bought 2nd hand), so I have low hopes.

Thanks!

edit: I've managed to get it going by doing the factory reset properly. Follow enkaytee's instructions and it seems to work.

edit2: once you've reset, do not go back into a RUN activity or you'll likely get stuck in the boot loop again. Wait for Garmin to update the firmware or somehow revert back to an older version (is this possible?)

Last edit: this appears to be a global issue on multiple watches, 255/265/955/965 both on beta AND stable FW. Garmin is aware and hopefully working on a fix. If you do not use GPS, it shouldn't go in the bootloop... GL everyone.

  • Got the same problem this morning, waiting for a fix

  • Same bootloop here, after notification arrived at "run" mode

  • I additionally kept pressing the Start/Stop button during boot loop while connecting the cable. It eventually stopped boot looping and opened up the watch in finder. Friend of mine did not need to do this, though.

  • My 955 went into the loop when I was about to go on my lunch run.

I managed to reset it afyer my run using the 2 top buttons, then with back button, beep, release top buttons, beep, release bottom button.  Technique.

I then restored a back up From earlier this month.

Has been OK for this evenings run.

    Fingers crossed Fingers crossed

  • Please help us understand why this is happening.  Can you give us a tentative time when it will be fixed?

  • Same here, Epix Pro 2. I do not want to lose all my settings. Backup is one year old. Any solution on this issue, Garmin?

  • I have had my watch turned off for a few hours as I gave up trying to do anything. Was on the triangle of death since  7 am UK time. I just turned it on and all seems ok...

  • hi,

I erased everything possible (a few files were locked) from the watch after connecting it to the pc and got it booted again. After downloading/installing maps of europe, it was hanging again.. Now I just made sure I can just swim/run/bike (without maps and all updates) BUT I lost my languages folder. Can somebody upload it from theirs? It should be in folder "garmin/text". I need dutch and now I can only select English! Many thanks!

  • I get a feeling that a fixed ephemeris file is slowly being propagated. About an hour ago I had the bootloop, and a factory reset (and restore to last backup) was the only way out of it.

I've just tried a GPS activity and it got a lock without crashing.

  • All,

Thank you very much for your patience as we worked on this issue. Please see the steps from My Garmin Device Will Not Boot Past the Start Up Screen for a resolution. If you already performed the steps involving the button presses and are still stuck on the triangle, please try them again.

If you are still experiencing any issues regarding this, please contact Product Support directly.

Thank you, and we are again very sorry for any frustration!
