Yet another watch stuck in boot loop

I was charging my watch this morning. As I disconnected the charger, the watch reset and is now stuck in the dreaded boot loop. I've tried restarting, doing the master reset (it works, I hear the two beeps), but it's still stuck on the boot loop.

I guess there's not much else to try. Any other magical step I could try?

I've already sent an email to support, but the watch is likely not in warranty anymore (bought 2nd hand), so I have low hopes.

Thanks!

edit: I've managed to get it going by doing the factory reset properly. Follow enkaytee's instructions and it seems to work.

edit2: once you've reset, do not go back into a RUN activity or you'll likely get stuck in the boot loop again. Wait for Garmin to update the firmware or somehow revert back to an older version (is this possible?)

Last edit: this appears to be a global issue on multiple watches, 255/265/955/965 both on beta AND stable FW. Garmin is aware and hopefully working on a fix. If you do not use GPS, it shouldn't go in the bootloop... GL everyone.

  • Also glad to learn that it wasn't simply that my watch has died. I've had it for 2 1/2 years, over 4000 miles running, close to 1000 walks, 700ish weight training workouts...my first assumption was it was just kaput.

Some glances or apps use GPS or briefly try if it is available (altimeter, moon phase, sunset and maybe more).

  • It just happened to me, I came back from a run outdoor and I was going to start a Strength training but as soon as I clicked the button it entered in the loop with the "Epix Pro" Logo, I force connected the watch to the PC, I removed the content of the RemoteSW folder and detached the device from the USB and it started normally.

  • 955 on loop here,  club training tonight at 6pm... will it be working by then? I somehow doubt that.

  • My Epix Pro gen 2 is also stuck on boot screen.  Hopefully Garmin fixes the issue

  • ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • All,

We are aware of the disruption of devices displaying a blue triangle when starting a GPS activity. Holding the power button until the unit powers off may or may not restore functionality temporarily. I am very sorry for any frustration and appreciate your patience as we work on a resolution.

I will update this thread then we know more!

So you do exist and read this forum!? What about ECG in Epix 2 Pro and F7 Pro? Not interested, are you? Just in your customers' money!

yesterday a GPS satellite was decommissioned: SVN45 (PRN21) maybe this led to the CPE.bin corruption?

  • before you lock down this post, please allow me to share (hopefully temporary) solution

Many of you have seen this post https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-965/402129/triangle-of-death-on-beta-22-14---anything-i-can-do/1890026#1890026

If refers to faulty two files which are trying to update our watches.

Those are GPE.bin and GPES.bin located in GARMIN\RemoteSW

I am using Windows 11 and can see Internal Garmin Storage as any other device attached via USB.

My solution is to have all Connectivity options OFF.

    Menu -> Connectivity -> Phone / Wi-Fi / Garmin Share

I have managed to do Master Reset with those two buttons pressed and released after beeps then connect to Mobile Phone and do Sync as usual.

Right after that immediately, repeat IMMEDIATELY switch off watch.

Then using USB cable connect it to PC. While still having watch connected open File Explorer and delete those two files if they are present.

Usually at this moment on the watch face you see charging process which can be interrupted with Back button.

Then go to Menu -> Connectivity -> Phone / Wi-Fi / Garmin Share and be sure that all of those are OFF. If not switch is OFF

Please Vote Up this if you found that working solution for you.

    Good Luck

    Going for my training

For me this works right now. I suggest to wait with those Connectivity OFF until hear from Garmin-Sierra or others that fix is deployed.

I guess this might be not today or even tomorrow.

  • I have exactly the same problem in my Venu 3.
can’t find a Solution. Service assistance told me about a global issue reported in many devices Now waiting for a Solution.
