Yet another watch stuck in boot loop

I was charging my watch this morning. As I disconnected the charger, the watch reset and is now stuck in the dreaded boot loop. I've tried restarting, doing the master reset (it works, I hear the two beeps), but it's still stuck on the boot loop.

I guess there's not much else to try. Any other magical step I could try?

I've already sent an email to support, but the watch is likely not in warranty anymore (bought 2nd hand), so I have low hopes.

Thanks!

edit: I've managed to get it going by doing the factory reset properly. Follow enkaytee's instructions and it seems to work.

edit2: once you've reset, do not go back into a RUN activity or you'll likely get stuck in the boot loop again. Wait for Garmin to update the firmware or somehow revert back to an older version (is this possible?)

Last edit: this appears to be a global issue on multiple watches, 255/265/955/965 both on beta AND stable FW. Garmin is aware and hopefully working on a fix. If you do not use GPS, it shouldn't go in the bootloop... GL everyone.

  • I had the same thought. How are Garmin going to push a software update to watches that wont boot up or factory reset. Not great Garmin

  • Where did you see GPE(S).bin? In Newfiles, RemoteSW or elsewhere?

I got mine working by unprompted-resetting again and NOT connecting to my phone. I could start and save a short GPS activity. Most settings back by restoring Settings.fit. Training status etc gone but that'll be back in 4 weeks or so.

  • All,

We are aware of the disruption of devices displaying a blue triangle when starting a GPS activity. Holding the power button until the unit powers off may or may not restore functionality temporarily. I am very sorry for any frustration and appreciate your patience as we work on a resolution.

I will update this thread then we know more!

  • my forerunner 955 solar got hit with it this morning. was looking at daily recommended workouts for indoor cycling and running (outdoors). once I loaded daily recommended running after cycling it bricked. i don't want to hard reset because I'll lose all my data field settings on my garmin and I really don't want to set them all up again. sad thing is I just charged the watch to 100% so I know it'll take at least 14 days to drain. come on garmin, I've been a customer for 13 years. do better. do MUCH better.

  • but this thread is more about an endless rebooting...

  • Have the same triangle of death after tring to start a run activity. Waiting for a solution…

Make a backup of your settings. After a complete reset, my watch itself offered to restore the settings from the backup.
  • I can almost feel their pain... hammering out and testing a fix, then informing helpdesks in multiple geographies, having to make and translate correctly helpdesk scripts that they can use to explain to every customer no matter their background, explaining how to reset their device, connect it before they attempt anything else, and let it update. And then the root cause analysis  and punishing the unlucky person who happened to push that bad update.

  • It's because the file is hidden by the Windows Explorer. You need to display hidden files to see it.

  • My Epix 2 Pro entered the restart loop few minutes ago...
