[21.22] Wifi map update too slow and in the end not working, something is wrong

As per title.

map update via wifi is too slow: it's unreasonably slow.

To complete the map update I have to remove the watch from my wrist and take it in charge while downloading map from wifi for like 6 hours!

USB Garmin express way is quite fast so there's something wrong in the memory management which trigger in wifi mode only.

  • The problem is that is not even working, because now it's downloading maps again.
In this last time it reached 97% then switched to the main charging screen without leaving any message.

The next time I connected to power again and it started back again downloading maps from 27%.

    This thing is not working.

You can't assume we always can connect the FR955 to a laptop, this can't be always the case.

Can you fix this map downloading issues ?

My understading is that the EuropeMap is too big and can't be managed correctly. You should break down per area grouping a few countries togheter. I don't know.

You are absolutely right about that a feature advertised, like "Maps download via Wifi", should work. No discussion here.

    BUT

You can't assume we always can connect the FR955 to a laptop, this can't be always the case.

We are talking about map updates - these happen once, or maybe twice a year, if we are lucky (not counting the Golf and Ski maps that I personally don't need).
I think it is the best idea to use Garmin Express then - to avoid yourself a lot of frustration. And to speed things up.
As far as I remember, last maps update in December was done in half an hour, using Express.

The watch itself maybe is capable of Wifi, but with a lot of limitations, probably due to power consumption restrictions (which slows things down...). And as far as I could read, also limited to 2,4 GHz (which I don't even use any longer on my Wifi because it is crowded like *** in cities) and has problems with WPA3 (Transition mode), but I won't switch down security on my Wifi for an edge-case.
