GARMIN FR 955 inadvertently discarded runs

My GARMIN FR 955 watch has mistakenly discarded my runs twice in the past 2 weeks.  The symptoms is as follow:  I pressed stop after finishing a run and left it there at the prompt for resume/save or discard.  Since it was cold outside (around -10C or 14F) I did not press save right away as I had glove on.  But somehow the watch jumped back to the home screen as if nothing has happened.  This happens a few second after I pressed stop. It just popped back to the home screen.

I know I did not press the wrong button to discard as it takes at least 3 keystrokes to choose and confirm discarding of a run.

Not sure if this is a software bug or the cold weather caused the hardware to act up?

I have had this and other GARMIN watches for a decade or so and this has never happened.

My Software Version is 21.22 [dfu-44be53]

It is a FR 955 Solar.

  • Some update FWIW, before I went to sleep last night, the watch popped up with a message that it was sleep time, did I want to save the activity?  I pressed OK and voila the run that was hiding in the background was saved.

Very strange, somehow the watch jumped to the home screen and I had no way to access the run until allowed to.

When this happened (the watch jumping back to the home screen), did you try pressing the START button at the watch face? If so, what happened?

Do you have a hotkey set to return to the watch face?

  • I do not recall hitting any button or the watch face after pressing stop.  I can't be 100% as my fingers were frozen inside my glove.

I also did not set any hot keys, I did not know how to set it.

You may have read my update that the watch prompted me to save an unsaved activity before I went to sleep.  So it somehow was still resident in the background.

Yeah, that's why I was asking if you tried pressing START after the watch jumped back to the watchface / home screen. If it's the case that the activity is still active, I'm hoping that pressing START at the watchface will return you to the activity.

I'm not discounting that there's a possible bug here, only wondering if there is a way for you to recover from it.

  • Thanks now I see.  I did not try it so I may never know unless it happens again.  Anyway all good for now, thanks again.

  • I have the same problem software version is 21.22. I did my run stopped it and it also went back to the Home Screen. I went to back onto run and it just started another run. Now I can see the run on the watch but it has t tracked it and says it is invalid. I’m still looking for a fix on this
