Forerunner 955 constantly trying to update

I found this thread, and realised that I am also starting to suffer from this on my watch.

forums.garmin.com/.../forerunner-955-keeps-trying-to-update

Running 20.21 now, and just signed up to the BETA programme to try and get an update that might fix it.

Any clues from anyone?

  • Unfortunately my best advice is to turn off Auto Update (which will stop the problem) and only occasionally check for new software versions manually. The issue has been around for a long time and is known to Garmin. Since it still happens to some people, the root cause has apparently not yet been identified.

  • Thanks.  I've just signed myself up for the BETA and upgraded to the latest software.

I'd be interested in helping debug - but seems weird that no one has been able to identify the root cause yet.   Is a factory reset helpful or is the only solution the turn-off to autoupdate?

  • This might help:

Connect your watch to your computer. Open the watch in a file manager.

Look for the GARMIN folder, and the RemoteSW folder inside that.

Delete all files in the RemoteSW folder.

Wait 10 seconds, then disconnect the watch from the computer.

The watch might still want to update, but this should (hopefully) be the last time it asks (until the next proper update).

If you're in the beta programme it may ask to install a small (4.5kB) file without rebooting. This is some sort of debug key file.
