[21.19] Product Update - New Features for Your Forerunner

Hello all, recently, we were discussing in the beta forum that several of us had not received information about the recent changes. Today I received an email with a link to this PDF, I am sharing it in case it is useful to someone who did not receive it:

There you will also find the previous ones:

And so on...

  • interesting that the Fenix 7pro and Epixpro didn't see these updates. seems the 255/955 got some extra updates due to relationship with the newer 265/965.

  • I received the email even twice. Yesterday and just now

  • interesting that the Fenix 7pro and Epixpro didn't see these updates

They are actually complaining about this in the Fenix 7 forums.

I think the most likely explanation (as mentioned by others) is that Forerunner and Fenix are simply out of sync, and Fenix 7 will get these updates later.

Another explanation could be that Garmin won't bring these updates to Fenix 7, as they want you to buy Fenix 8.

Guess we'll see what happens in 3 months.

  • I can only imagine how unhappy the 7pro and Epix-pro people are about this. in my years with Garmin, feature updates (although never promised/guaranteed) usually keep coming for two years. I sadly think you are correct: they want to differentiate the Fenix8 line from the 7 line. I don't see why they would not include these in the 7 series right now if they were planning on doing so, if they are being genuine about having a more unified software across all devices.

I think we may have lucked out because they wanted to bring the features to the "flagship 965" and they felt they had to match it with the 955 since the same watch/platform except for the display.

I'm guessing "feature updates" will end for the 955/965 when the 975 arrives.

I still love my 955 (assuming this FW doesn't break it), but I confess that I will be sorely tempted to upgrade if the 975 has a flashlight. I know it's silly that such a feature would have me upgrade (more than ECG or anything else I can think of) but I think it would be crazy useful to me getting up in the middle of the night or walking the dog at night (to do my poop bagging ;) )

  • huh? The 955 has already the flashlight option. So no need to upgrade just for that feature...or do I misinterpret your message and overlook a bit of cynism :-)

  • our 955 does have the flashlight using the screen, but its not nearly as effective as the dedicated LEDs (which can project white or red) on the Fenix7/Epix Pro watches and newer Fenix 8's or Enduro 3. I know it sounds trivial, but it's something that I would love to have and if the price is right on the 975, I would consider upgrading just for it. that being said, I'm back and forth about whether I'd go to AMOLED just to get that feature.

the Enduro 3, IMHO, looks like an awesome watch, but I don't think I could pull off the 51mm diameter on my wrist, and the thickness is also something that I would probably dislike, especially while sleeping.

but my 955 does what it's supposed to do. (the light does work walking around the house at night, but not bright enough to pick up dog poop :)
