[21.19] Scale ring on the map, make it optional, please. And zoom button translucent.

Having a scale on a map well, that's the base.

Ok but we're not here measuring the millimiters to convert them in real meters.

It's a super tiny map which I'm looking at. While trail running I can barely see the map and you write me down the distance from my position to the ring... wow.

It's clear that the ring presence on the map need to be optional based on activity.

Am I hiking or walking? Ok that should be a good (hard to use) feature.

Am I running? There's definetely no use, remove the ring and the other tiny number.

About zoom buttons: it's clear that we need them translucent as they were originally.

    I tried that but doesn't work for me. I'm tracking without active navigation. However I also tried to navigate a course to see what happens but either I still see the ring, or I get bottom cut off with large navigation next step which obscures more of the screen.

    Sorry, I thought that's what you LoekV meant when you LoekV said the black part at the bottom of the screen.

    [EDIT: you (Luc) didn't say that, but I wasn't replying to you, I was replying to LoekV who actually asked for the big black part at the bottom of the screen to be removed. The comment you were responding to was a response to LoekV's request, not a response to the main topic of the thread.]

    That's what gets removed if you disable Settings > Navigation > Map > Data Field as I commented (in that case, the black navigation turn-by-turn alert should only appear when you are close to an upcoming turn.)

    When I use the map without navigation, I only see the ring, but not any black part at the bottom of the screen. I only see the black part at the bottom when I use navigation. Tbh I'm not sure what's happening in your case. You could try disabling Settings > Navigation > Map > Status. I have no idea what this even is tbh, but maybe you're seeing a status field that I'm not?

    That's basically the ask here: "Scale ring on the map, make it optional,...".. Not the bottom black navigation panel.

    That ring is always there as you see in those screenshots. For me the only way I can reduce that ring is to use 'Track Up" but then I get icon upper left (with poor contrast and took me a while to figure out it's supposed to show direction).

    Before the update you could I believe turn off/on scale. Now it's fixed. This code seems ported from the AMOLED Fenix watches and not adjusted for 955. The contrast broke also after this change.

    I now realize that was a different poster (sorry), but to be fair, you (Luc) responded to my comment which was a response to LoekV about a different issue and your names are both short and start with L.

    TL;DR

    - the thread is about the ring (we all know that). We also know that the ring can't be removed directly

    - LoekV said the big black part of the bottom with the directions should also be optional

    - I responded to LoekV (with a quote, so it was clear who and what I was responding to) that you can turn off the big black part at the bottom with directions

    - You responded to my response saying that you tried that it and it doesn't work for you (to remove the ring). But I never said that procedure removes the ring, I think I made it clear that it removes the "big black part at the bottom with the directions" (at least until you get close to a turn)
