FORERUNNER 955 suddenly not able to connect - a lot of troubleshooting done

I noticed that my fr 955 had been disconnected from my S23+ about a week ago, had never happened again, it used to always pair with my phone within seconds. No matter what i have tried since then the watch isn't able to connect to the phone ever again . I was on app ver 5.7 .
I have tried :

  • Watch factory reset

  • Unpair from Bluetooth devices ( i even did a complete Bluetooth and wifi reset on my phone ) .

  • I tried with Connect app ver 5.5 , 5.6 , and 5.7 , no difference, the pairing screen just goes on forever without results.

  • I tried on two different android devices , a Xiaomi and a Samsung a52 , neither of them paired ( with latest Connect app ver 5.7 ) .

Watch is running software Ver 20.32 . I think the watch had a software update recently but cant remember exactly when it was , and how close it was to the day i noticed it's disconnecting.

Im loosing my patience over here and thinking of just yeeting my watch. /s

Thanks in advance !

Maybe you tried it already, but switching off wifi on the phone helped me a few times to pair a Garmin device to my Samsung A22.

  • Maybe another idea. Do you have BT Headphones? Your FR955 should be able to pair with those too and play some music or at least HR during activity. Can you connect to Headset?

  • @Data I gave it a try and got a prompt that Garmin Connect has no internet connection , but still nothing changed regarding connecting to the 955. I tried with mobile data on as well but with no results.

  • I do have a pair of earbuds laying around somewhere . I will give it a try and report back.
Before doing a reset on the watch, the watch could at least connect to the wifi. Now when i go to the Wifi connection it says that i need to configure Wifi through Connect app .

Is there any chance there is a way to manually rollback to a prior watch firmware version ?

  • Only if you are on beta.

Well if you would have FW file I guess there is a way to place it in one of folders on the Watch and after restart it would be used, but I guess some of those newer FW install also drivers for various sensors and that might be a bit more complicate to roll back.

  • Tried pairing my bt headphones 3 times without result. While the watch couldnt find the headphones , my phone could find them ( i hadnt paired them before ) . So i guess the BT is not working on the watch ?

What version of ANT/BLE/BT is on your watch?

That is OK. (If it was 0.00 it would mean it was broken). Strange problem. Can you connect ANT+ sensors?

  • No it doesn't , i just tried to to connect it to my rowing machine like i used to , and the Broadcast HR on the watch just stays off .
