20.32 - ABC widget, pressing START does not open the context menu.

When I open the ABC widget and press the start button on that first screen, the context menu (Calibrate/Settings/etc.) does not open.

It does open on any other page of that widget (altitude graph, barometer, compass), but not on the main one.

  • Yes, I would expect a menu with the options you described.

And I guess my point is that no such menu (combined menu for alt/baro/compass with calibrate option(s) at the top level) has ever existed…

  • I think it's by design. There's no context menu for the first screen bc the first screen is a combo of altimeter, barometer and compass, while each of the other pages is dedicated to one of those things (as you pointed out).

Note that the context menu is different for each of the A, B and C pages.

For example, A, B, C all have different settings. The calibrate option is the same for A and B, but different for C (obviously).

I figure Garmin doesn't think it would be a good idea to try to combine all 3 of those menus into one menu. e.g. Instead of a single Calibrate option, they'd need to have Calibrate Altimeter/Barometer and Calibrate Compass

Was there a context menu for the first screen in a previous firmware? Genuine question.

  • Yes, I would expect a menu with the options you described.

I'm only puzzled because I can set a hot key to open the ABC widget, but not the elevation one (which has the menu on the first screen). My goal is to reach the altimeter calibration during an activity with less button presses as possible.

    I have

    - hold back (ABC)

    - press down

    - press start

    - press Calibrate

I wish I could just hold back > Calibrate Altimeter

    Are there any better ways?

  • Yes, I would expect a menu with the options you described.

And I guess my point is that no such menu (combined menu for alt/baro/compass with calibrate option(s) at the top level) has ever existed, as far as I know.

I checked a couple of older watches and:

    - 945LTE works just like 955

    - 935 has a single menu for the ABC widget, but the top level menu always forces you to choose between Altimeter, Barometer and Compass. Even 945LTE and 955 have this combined menu (if you hold UP at the combined screen).

So my point is that it’s on purpose, it’s not an oversight. Either way, Garmin wants you to select A, B, or C before accessing related options.

    Are there any better ways?

I don’t think so. The only ones I can think of are just as many button presses or more.

Might be worth suggesting an idea to Garmin to add Calibrate Altimeter to the hot key options.

If you want to always calibrate your altimeter at the beginning of an activity, you could change the Auto Calibration mode from On to Nightly. Then you’ll be prompted to confirm elevation at the beginning of every activity. I figure that’s not what you want tho.

  • Thanks, I sent the idea to Garmin, hopefully, it will be implemented at some point.
