FR955 with nylon strap weight?

Hi

does anybody have a nylon strap fitted to their FR955 they could weigh for me? I’m interested to see if like my epix pro it’s saves around 20g as I’m looking to purchase the FR955 to use alongside my Epix.

Thanks

  • My FR955 (non-solar) is 41 grams with a cheap nylon (the kind Garmin sell; dearly prized) from Amazon.

Edit: Strapless the watch is 35 grams...

  • You made me curious about strap weight in general, so this morning I weighed all in my possesion:

17g - Original Garmin Silicone 22mm which came with the watch (never used). Fastened by holes for the pins. The weight tallies up with the watch to the official 52 grams total for at non-solar FR955 (solar is 1 gram heavier).

6g - The new style 'UltraFit' nylon fastened by 'Hook and Loop', which I believe Garmin copied from other manufacturers, with a plastic stopper at one end and the other end wrapped around that pin and secured on the inside of the wrist. Sold by YOOSIDE (same as Abanen) on Amazon.se ca 22$ single or 28$ two-pack in dull colours... We Swedes pay a hefty markup. The Abanen link on Amazon.com is 13.59$ single and 18.69 two-pack.

6g - The old style 'UltraFit' nylon fastened by 'Hook and Loop' where both ends wrap around the pins and are secured on the outside of the wrist. Sold by TOPsic on Amazon.se ca 19$

21g - Apple 'Alpine Loop' clone. Nylon strap using 22mm 'QuickFit' at both ends. Sold by torbollo (HEMSUT) on Amazon.se ca 28$

24g - Strap with thin leather on the ouside and 'ribbed'/undulating (for ventilation) silicone on the inside. Fastened by 22mm 'QuickFit'. Sold by YOOSIDE on Amazon.se ca 28$

I mostly use the new style 'UltraFit' because it is extremely comfortable and secure for both running and swimming (freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke - at my age I don't do butterfly). The old version where the hook and loop sections fasten on the outside of the wrist (each towards the centre) could not withstand the forces of wrist meeting water and would frequently be ripped open. The new style has the single outside hook and loop section actually being pressed together more securely by the water impact.

During winter there are times when I prefer the 'Alpine Loop' band for running since it is easier to slide over multiple layers of clothing than the new 'UltraFit'. I say slide since unhooking/closing 'QuickFit' one-handed is nearly impossible. Though, the old 'UltraFit' also works well during winter since it can be almost completely pulled out on both sides and thus form a quite wide opening OR one side can be pulled out and without too much fuzz can be wriggled back in place one-handed.

The leather/silicone strap was bought for 'style', but since I rarely use the watch outside of sports activities I don't really have an opinion about it. Does the silicone undulation work as ventilation? Probably not. The flesh is pushed up into the 'valleys', preventing airflow.
