Battery Drain FR955

Since the Update 20.32 my battery is draining very fast, from 100% to 9% in just two days were my battery usually held about 2 Weeks. Is anybody else having these issues? Is there a fix planned?

  • It would be nice to have option to downgrade FW on to before 20.xx. It was possible on FR645 I had before 955. The FW files was avalibe to download on the Garmin site. But I can see similar files for 955.

  • The restart works, but this means needed to restart after EVERY activity, which seems a tad bit ridiculous, particularly in 2024 (i.e. not 1993...).

Is there any known plug-in or app that would do this, in at least a semi-automated fashion, perhaps with a prompt or similar (simple search in store didn't yield much)?

  • Any update from Garmin?

Or do they want us to upgrade?

  • It was good for a few days. But a week ago I had another relapse: Whenever I record with a chest strap, the battery subsequently loses more than 10% per day. I hope for the software 21.xx - otherwise, there are other manufacturers who would like my money.

  • Used to be able to get 2 weeks of power with my normal workout routine. Now I need to charge within a week :/

  • Me too.

My son uses my old 925 and he has a better battery life then me (with solar) now.

  • The software base is probably allot of spaghetti, since this subject keeps popping up and the amount of new bugs that are created or worse return with every update. Cleaning up code is in most instances not a vaible option. They probably just need to start with clean project en rebuild everything on it. The question is if they will still do this door MIPS watches, the return in investment is probably too poor to pitch it. Think we will be in this boat until you switch to an amoled ecosystem. That is if they started with a clean base there.

  • Sorry to say, but you are speculating a lot and know a little.

They probably just need to start with clean project en rebuild everything on it

Yeah, and this project is running since a year or so. All the (before different) firmwares and the features in it are united.
Garmin stated this at an investors conference and you can see, that they are working on it.
Just check the last releases of Forerunner x55 and x65, Fenix 7 and Epix 2 and everything that is from that period of release or newer.
They have all the same features now and all the same subsystem versions in the meantime...

The question is if they will still do this door MIPS watches

    Yes of course!

The Forerunner x55 are having the identical (!) firmware with the Forerunner x65.
Also the Fenix 7 series has the same firmware like the Epix 2.
That is no surprise, as - beside display technology - these are technically identical watches.

Think we will be in this boat until you switch to an amoled ecosystem. That is if they started with a clean base there.

    No. Just no.

Like I wrote above, the firmware IS already being unified with all the models released in the past 4 years, no matter if MIP or AMOLED.

And at topic: I had a small phase of higher battery consumption with my FR 955 after release of 20.xx
But for me, it is back to normal for weeks now. I deactivated and deleteted Garmin Share from the watch and I am getting stable 8-10 days (100-20%) from the watch.

  • Well some good news there, will check what I can find that they apparently told the investors.

Sad thing stays that they introduce new features and break the stuff that worked or just worked again.

But, removing the feature they just introduced, fixes your battery life. Nice.

  • How can I remove that feature?

    I already disabled crashdetection

    Edit:

It was garmin share and i now disabled it

    Thanks.
