Battery usage question on 20.29

I have done 3 activities, total 4,5 hours (2 biking, 1 running). Charged full on Saturday, now it is Tuesday. Battery down from 100% to 45%. Is this normal? Only difference to my earlier trainings is that I mainly had map screen throughout these activities. Does it eat this much more battery, or is it something else? Was not listening to music, had HRM Pro Plus on.

  • 1h activity with GPS ON takes about 8% in my case (with music playing from the watch t will be more around 11%). So 4.5 times 8= 36%. Non-activity daily use is about 5%, so 15-20% in your case (depends on when on Saturday you unplugged the watch). That counts up to 51-56%. Your use of 55% seems in line with that. But I read very different battery usage here on the forum, so best way to compare is with your own previous use.

  • The map screen does lots of screen updates and computation. It does eat lots of battery.

What I'd suggest is that if you don't need the map that instant, change the display to some other screen until you do.

  • Battery life is pretty poor on these latest versions of FW.  I usually burn up about 1% battery every 9 or 10 minutes on GPS.  That has gotten slightly worse with the new FW ... more like 1% every 7 or 8 minutes, but my standby battery drain is about 2-3 times what it was before upgrading to 20.26 and then shortly after to 20.29.

  • Standby "smartwatch mode" battery is back to normal for me on 20.29, with a realistic 10+ days of battery life in smartwatch mode. I'm back to only needing to give the watch short charges whilst I'm having a shower or bath, and being confident enough to only charge it up to 80%.

I use the default watch face. On a run, I use the standard data screens too. I don't need to use any IQ screens for extra data like I did on the vivoactive3 (which was a major battery drain).

My most recent long run used up approximately 7% in 73 minutes, which is 1% per 10 minutes. (Firmware version 20.29, multiband GPS on, HRM Pro+ strap)
