[20.26] Regression in the map feature (zoom buttons are black, forest not green)

Hi

Update 20.26 also brought a deterioration in the performance of maps. I see 2 problems.

1. The zoom buttons are black, they are no longer transparent.

2. The color of the forests is no longer green and has become green-brown.

I remember both problems were there in the past but were fixed. Now they are back.

  • Since it would have been an internal change which shouldn't have affected the users (if there hadn't been any bugs), there wouldn't have been any reason to mention it.

  • But it's possible that the new engine doesn't support partial transparency on MIP. Impossible to know, but it would explain why the background is always black on 955 but translucent on 965.

Yes, that's possible, but again, 945 LTE had this bug much earlier (maybe 1.5-2 years ago, right around the time that it was synced up with the UI/code from FR955), and it was previously fixed on that device too. I believe both of those things happened before FR955 even had the bug.

About 8 months ago, 945 LTE stopped receiving major updates, so it's no longer in sync with 955 now.

Even if your explanation is the correct one, it goes back to how some devices suffer when several devices with significant differences share the same firmware code base.

945 LTE was also hit by a change in how map panning worked (a single press of the UP or DOWN buttons would pan the map by a single pixel, and holding the buttons did nothing), which basically made panning impossible. This change was also annoying on the newer devices (like 955 and Fenix 7), but less of an issue because panning was possible using the touchscreen. 945 LTE doesn't have a touchscreen, though, so making the buttons useless for panning had a much greater impact on that device.

  • Ok, then I'm probably wrong and the bug is caused by something else.  Let's hope they get it fixed for 955 also.
