If you need glasses to read - please Share Idea

Once again I am asking community to Share Ideas with Garmin

I guess this is very important even for those who has good eyesight today but will get eventually older

In the past gauges has indicator which looks like Garmin Triangle logo

Today this is only tiny dash across color arc. Very difficult to spot if you need glasses to read.

Please compare those images. This is not exactly what we (people who wear glasses) see but quite close. Answer yourself which is better. Versions on the right were made in Paint

It was recently confirmed by Garmin, that reported Ideas has better chances to be implemented than reporting bugs or posts here.

Hence, if you think this is important to you please use that Share Ideas page to let Garmin knows.

Thank you

Just in case you want to save time, below is template which you can copy paste.

Market Category -> Sport and Fitness or Outdoor and Recreation

Idea:

Bring back small triangle on various gauges especially Pace or HR, while performing activity. There are people in this world, which needs glasses to read. In the past gauges has triangle (quite similar to Garmin Logo) indicating actual effort. Today this is tiny dash across red / green / red arc. Very difficult to spot by person with limited eyesight.
It would be nice to have it back for all watches not only Sport and Fitness.

You can also copy web address of this post to share above images

  • We use workarounds because we think. We press Lap to have Radar gauges visible (see latest update). We setup AutoLap to communicate over headphones.

Your approach will not work for many people who train and race against HR (this is my case). And headphones would work only for those with music version. But problem touches everybody. I do not know any Garmin watch which has that type of gauge. All were changed. Why? Nobody knows.

I am kindly asking all of you to share ideas as Garmin expect us to  do to make them understand how many users expect that change. Actually return to previous situation.

Many of us here have some experience with software programming. We know that such change is easy as saving 32x32 pixel image. Or even better dig into git repository and bring back what was there year (maybe a bit more) ago.

  • This is not an idea, it's my personal experience. I used to wear glasses since many years ago. I could do trail run without them, but at night things started to get tough. I eventually started to use it during long trails that involved running at night. Then someone told me, why don't you try contact lenses, just for trail running ?

I gave it shot. I tried progressive lenses, not much faith, but if I could run without glasses, it would pay the effort of adapt. I work with PC screens, 8h/day and to be honest our current life is all screens. So I need to see clear near sight, and also distant.

Since the first day I put these things in my eyes.... man.... I could see clear at distance, then I returned to office and I see clear near sight. I can see as good with contact lenses as with my progressive glasses.

What a revelation!!! My wife uses contact lenses since decades, so I was aware of the benefits. I admit it needs some initial adaptation, and some weeks to put and remove in some seconds, daily. But today I consider these tiny silicon gel things as a true miracle.

I can see clear, the trails, the stones, no more falls, I can see my garmin screen like never before in a race, I can work 8h/day in front of a monitor. Love it!!! Like a kid again Slight smile

Never imagined it ended up like this, so, it's not an idea, but hope someone that reads this would profit and make a change of its life also. It's really a life changer.

  • I appreciate your reply, but I guarantee you that with your glasses you will still be able to spot large triangle as well small dash line.

One comment about contact lenses. When I have spoken with people which require glasses only to read, most of us has similar bad experience while wearing glasses and going downstairs. The same would be running downhill.

It is much easier to take glasses off and "feel distance" to next step.

And my kind request to share that idea is to notify Garmin that this change was not good at all.

  • And my kind request to share that idea is to notify Garmin that this change was not good at all.

Exactly! Please all make Garmin aware. There was never any need for this change.

Even if you have no visual impairment at all, the small line is much harder to see than the triangle. Why _not_ make such screens easily visible?

Glasses and contacts only go so far. Many visual impairments are not correctable by optical means. Specifically when it comes to aging, loss of accommodation is one thing and that may be corrected, but decreased contrast sensitivity due to less clear media inside the eye is also a factor.

  • Agree this is an excellent idea - and perhaps Fonts and Fields specifically designed with poor sight in mind.

  • When I run at night, with or without backlight, I cannot see the orange circle indicating the remaining time of rest intervals at all, the contrast with the background is too low, and the time is too small to read. I have set up a lap screen with just the lap time in a field to use instead.

  • I agree...this is an excellent idea.

  • I have shared my idea: "I have some old records mostly for runnings. These are few years old, and I am getting just older and older and very difficult to beat them. So they are good to know, but don't give me too much motivation. My idea is to implement a yearly record system paralel to the recent one, so it can give more motivation for most of the people like me."
